Schooner Alexander Hamilton

Wooden boat frame under construction on a beach with a finished boat nearby.

The Last Wooden Schooner built on the beach in Nevis

The wooden schooner, Alexander Hamilton, was constructed in Gallows Bay Charlestown, just feet away from the birthplace of the great man himself. The planning for this significant project began in 1979, and the keel was laid in 1981 by Ralph Harris, one of the last West Indian wooden boat builders in Nevis. Using local materials and traditional hand tools, this remarkable heritage refit showcases the rich Alexander Hamilton history. Check out the Audio History by pressing the button below.
